Overview:

The Socratic Seminar is a structured, student-centered discussion format. The protocol maximizes student participation, requires students to read, think and listen critically, and facilitates the clear and convincing development and articulation of ideas. The seminar places the burdens, responsibilities, and rewards of intellectual inquiry squarely on the shoulders of the students.

Standards:

Reading 2.0: Comprehension.Reading 3.0:Literary Response and Analysis.

Reading 3.5.C: Literary Response and Analysis.

Listening and Speaking 2.3. Deliver oral responses to literature.

Listening and Speaking 2.3.A Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the significant ideas of literary works (e.g. make assertions about the text that are reasonable and supportable.).
