Assessment and Evaluation:

Embedded in the activity is assessment through teacher observation of student use of measurement tool, student ability to determine and use the scale of the map, and student ability to determine the halfway distance between the locations. In addition, the teacher will observe the methods that the student uses to determine the fractional distances: concretely (counting spaces on the ruler to determine half, for example), use of algorithm(s), ability to check for reasonableness of answers.
