Perspective Writing
Overview
This writing activity requires the students to use all of their experiences on board the C.A. Thayer. They need to make a decision whether to "jump ship" or to stay aboard once they reach the shores of Oregon or California to load lumber needed to rebuild the city of San Francisco. As students brainstorm ideas for this activity, they need to recall vocabulary taught and used on board the Thayer. Their decision must be based on their actual experiences - good or bad. This higher level thinking activity is a way to measure student knowledge in a creative writing lesson.
