Each September,
teachers in the Bay Area apply to participate in the springtime Environmental
Living Program (ELP) at the John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez,
California. Classes are chosen to participate by lottery. John Muir Elementary
fourth grade students in Martinez have been fortunate to participate in
the program for the last six years. The County Technology Academy Grant
(CTAG) we received will allow a portion of the vast ELP project to be
placed on the World Wide Web. Teachers will be able to access lessons,
view student work and resources as well as send email with lessons that
would work in in this program. Students can link to information about
John Muir's life, visit the U.S. National Parks site, and learn more about
ELP Day by viewing pictures. Parent expectations will also be outlined.
This website also documents John Muir fourth graders in preparation for
and participating in their annual ELP Day at the John Muir National Historic
Site.
