About the Grant

Grant Description:

Every day teachers are presenting exemplary math, science, and reading lessons, but they often go unshared because:

• It takes time to write up and publish the exemplary lessons, and time is a premium
• A written lesson doesn't always convey the secrets of success that could be witnessed through a video clip, but are often difficult to explain in print
• Beginning teachers and mentor teachers have limited time to collaborate

Teachers want to use video as a means of communicating, but are prevented from doing so because of:

• The prohibitive cost of purchasing a video camera, tripod, and microphone
• The lack of training in the use of video, video as an art, and video editing

The Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE) introduces "Teacher Double Feature" which proposes a solution to both of these problems by inviting teachers to share two exemplary lessons, complete with collateral material and video clips, via the web. Up to fifteen (15) teachers whose applications have been selected will receive a digital video camera, tripod, wireless microphone, and software that they will be able to keep upon successful completion of their total project. They will also receive three full days of training to help them learn to plan and shoot their video, edit the footage, and present the lesson and collateral material for the web.

• Teachers showcase and contribute two (2) of their exemplary lessons, complete with web-based lesson plans, handouts, and short video clip(s), to the Teacher Double Feature Online Video-Enhanced Lesson Library.
• Teachers receive a Sony mini-DV video camera, a tripod, wireless microphone, Adobe Acrobat, and 3 days of training in return for contributing to the video library of exemplary lessons.

The CCCOE Technology System Department would like to acknowledge Pacific Bell who along with CCCOE is funding this grant. CCCOE Tech Systems submitted a competitive grant application to Pacific Bell last summer outlining our proposal for the TDF grant and was awarded a grant amount of $30,000.
