Pegasus students & mentors

Online Pegasus is a resource project that will integrate solutions to community health issues with academic curriculum in English, science and social science classes. This project emphasizes the following:
  • Integrated curriculum
  • Project based learning
  • Problem Solving
  • Literacy
  • Community service
  • Mentorships and internships
  • School to Career/California Partnership Academies

This project was created for senior Human Service and Health (HSH) Academy students at Richmond High School. However, all aspects of this project were designed for other educators to use. As part of this project, students will create a web page that presents practical and achievable remedies to community health concerns. Currently HSH students participate in our Pegasus Project, which is a four-hour medical internship at one of the following institutions: Richmond Health Center, Kaiser Permanente, and Doctors Medical Center. At their internship sites students work with mentors in a variety of fields, including general and emergency medicine, radiology, pharmacology, and nursing. Internships also include various county health departments. The Pegasus internship serves as a rich resource for this online project.

This project was made possible through a County Technology Academy Grant funded by the Dean and Margaret Lesher Foundation in cooperation with the Contra Costa County Office of Education
